In what sense is TESLA a different award?
TESLA does not award portfolios or realized bodies of work, but awards a new idea yet to be produced instead. In this sense the TESLA Award acts as a motivator for realization of great ideas that would otherwise be difficult to complete. By offering a fee, travel costs, residency and production support; TESLA aims to empower young creators on their way to bring new ideas to the light.

I have a great idea, but I am afraid I won’t be able to realize it alone …
This is why we are here to help with a production and research residency. We will go through the idea with you, help you overcome obstacles, check materials, technical needs and try to be as supportive as we can, so you will be able to realize your new work in the best possible way.

Why only artists from Slovenia?
In its first year, TESLA is awarded in partnership with the Summer Sessions program of V2_Lab. Following the format of Summer Sessions, this year the residency is awarded to a Slovenian artist or an artist living and working in Slovenia. In the following years the award will be extended regionally, so please check the new international call towards the end of the year!

Why TESLA?
TESLA Award stands for Transdisciplinary Explorative Slovenian Art Award. TESLA Award wants to reflect the spirit was behind Nikola Tesla’s creative work – his approach of combining diverse principles & ideas and deep belief in progress for whole humanity.

Can we apply as a group / collective?
Yes you can. The application, however, needs to be submitted by an individual who is part of the group and not older than 35 years of age.
